Frequently Asked Questions

You have a question? We have an answer.

Do I need a referral to access physiotherapy services?

Yes, under the General Healthcare System (GESY) in Cyprus, a referral from your General Practitioner (GP) or a relevant specialist is required to access physiotherapy services. This ensures that the treatment aligns with your specific medical needs and is covered under GESY guidelines.

How many physiotherapy sessions am I entitled to under GESY?

The number of sessions covered by GESY depends on your diagnosis and individual needs. Typically, referrals are issued for 3 or 6 sessions, with the possibility of renewal upon reassessment. The total number of sessions per year varies based on the severity and type of condition.

What is the cost of physiotherapy sessions under GESY?

Each physiotherapy session under GESY requires a co-payment of €10. There are annual caps on co-payments to ensure affordability: €75 for low-income pensioners, recipients of the minimum guaranteed income, and children under 18; and €150 for other beneficiaries.

What should I bring to my first physiotherapy appointment?

Please bring your GESY referral, any relevant medical records or imaging reports, and wear comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the area requiring treatment. This will facilitate a comprehensive assessment and effective treatment planning.

Can I choose my physiotherapist under GESY?

Yes, once you have a referral, you can select a physiotherapist from the list of GESY-approved providers. This allows you to choose a practitioner whose expertise and location best suit your needs.
